Open Positions

ReStore Associate (Williamsburg)

Habitat is looking for a dedicated employee who really wants to help make a difference! You will work closely with our ReStore team, which facilitates all facets of our retail and donation receiving operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an ambassador of the ReStore while interacting with donors/customers.
  • Provide customer service to customers, volunteers and fellow employees.
  • Complete daily unloading and end of the day truck procedures.
  • While at ReStore help with processing, organization and arrangement of donations.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the processing room and sales floor.
  • Direct the back-room flow (e.g., monitoring the flow from drop-off testing, clean-up to pricing).
  • Processing of payments by cash, checks and credit cards at POS.
  • Constant merchandise appraisal and pricing.
  • Answer all phone calls and provide proper information to customers and donors.
  • Assist with donation screening and scheduling pick-ups.
  • Supervise volunteers and assist with volunteer projects.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

REQUIREMENTS

This individual must understand and appreciate the mission of HFH.  Qualified candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to multi-task.  This individual must be detail-oriented and able to work independently.  Must be able to deal with all kinds of individuals and remain consistent in keeping a professional demeanor.  

BENEFITS

This is a full time position, paid hourly at a rate to be determined, with periodic performance-based increases, commensurate with experience. Must be available a total of 40 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, 8:30AM to 6:00PM. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred.

Donation Processor (Newport News)

POSITION PURPOSE
The Donation Processing position is responsible for accepting all donations at the Newport News Habitat for Humanity ReStore and will follow the donation processing procedures in a timely and professional manner while focusing on safety and customer satisfaction. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an ambassador of the ReStore while interacting with donors, customers and volunteers.
  • Receive drive through donations from the general public.
  • Insure that we accept only donations deemed acceptable by referring to our “Do and Don’t” donation sheet.
  • Provide donors with a Donation Receipt.
  • Receive truck donations from Habitat trucks.
  • Assist Habitat truck drivers with off-loading donations in a safe manner.
  • Clean and test all donations  and present to a “pricing” staff member.
  • Deliver all priced donations to the appropriate space on the sales floor.
  • Maintain a clean and safe processing work area.
  • Assist guests with their purchases to autos as needed.
  • Assist with recycling as needed.

HOURS OF WORK/REQUIREMENTS
The position of Donation Processing is a minimum 40 hours per week Monday through Saturday, with varying schedule when necessary with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Newport News, Virginia. The successful applicant will report directly to the ReStore Manager and Processing Supervisor. 

  • Must be a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual, accustomed to being a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated success in working in a team environment, especially with volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with low-income families, church and community groups.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 100lbs consistently.
  • Must interact well with fellow staff, volunteers and customers.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations preferred. 
  • Must be able to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule.

Truck Driver & Processor (Williamsburg)
Williamsburg ReStore

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore team in Williamsburg and Newport News is now hiring Truck Driver & Donation Processors. This position reports to the Logistics Office Manager and is responsible for transporting, loading and unloading donations to and from the ReStore.

Primary duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Act as an ambassador of the ReStore while interacting with donors, customers and volunteers 
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the trucks 
  • Complete daily/weekly/monthly safety check lists on trucks. Keep records in log book located on truck.  Report ALL truck issues to the Fleet Coordinator
  • Assist with donation screening and pick-ups. Expected to accept upstairs and downstairs donations keeping the safety of donor, their home, driver and assistant a priority
  • Assist with loading recycling runs from both ReStore locations
  • Assist with unloading and loading all trucks
  • Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy at all times to donors, customers, volunteers and fellow employees
  • While at ReStore, assist with processing procedures as necessary
  • Supervise volunteers when applicable
  • Assist with warehouse runs as needed

Applicants must be able to confidently drive a box truck and lift up to 100 pounds on a regular basis. Applicants will experience frequent bending, squatting, lifting and repetitive motion. This position will occasionally be exposed to extremes in weather (e.g., heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.). Must be available to work Monday through Saturday. The typical workday runs 8 am to 4:30 pm with ½ hour lunch. Factors such as weather, traffic, etc. may delay the route and cause the employee to return to the office later than 5pm. On occasion, employees may be asked to work outside those hours, especially when assisting with special events.

Valid Virginia Driver’s license in good standing and a clean driving record are required.

Volunteer Recruiter & Retention Coordinator (Newport News)

The Volunteer Recruiter & Retention Coordinator, (VRRC), is responsible for managing the procedures for recruitment, retention, coordination and safety of all Traditional Volunteers working in the ReStore. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Act as an ambassador of the ReStore while interacting with donors, customers and volunteers.
  • Schedule all volunteers insuring proper coverage daily in the ReStore
  • Work closely with Outreach Coordinator with Volunteer Groups
  • Scheduling tours for new volunteers
  • Keep break room clean and organized for volunteers
  • Maintain updated information board internally
  • Keep volunteer information stocked both internally and in the community
  • Take lead in planning events, (Anniversary, monthly Volunteer Appreciation and Christmas Party)
  • Respond daily to inquiries regarding volunteer opportunities from individuals and groups
  • Maintain an existing volunteer base with daily maintenance of the Volunteer Hub site in a proactive manner to insure proper coverage daily in the ReStore
  • Recruit new volunteers through phone contacts, business calls and community/civic group interaction
  • Orientate and train all volunteers including devising and updating volunteer policies and procedures and Habitat history and principles.
  • Tracking of liability forms and volunteers hours. 
  • Coordinate monthly Volunteer Appreciation events for volunteers
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recognition program
  • Attend monthly community meetings and weekly correspondence with community contacts
  • Greet/welcome all Volunteer Groups, collect liability waivers then turn group over to ReStore staff for the day’s projects
  • Must be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual, accustomed to being a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment, especially with volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, mathematical and planning skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  •  Previous nonprofit experience a plus. 
  • Good computer and internet skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule

Hours of Work/Requirements: The position of VRRC is a 40 hour per week position.  Applicant must be available to work Monday through Saturday, with varying schedule when necessary with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Newport News Virginia. The successful applicant will report directly to the ReStore Manager.
